CONWAY, Ark. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team opened up Southern Athletic Association play with a road win at Hendrix on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers defeated the Warriors 2-0 to improve to 5-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Freshman forward Coleman Jennings (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) scored both of BSC's goals, finding the back of the net in each of the two halves.
Jennings opened up the scoring early with a goal in the eighth minute. Junior Will Gannaway (Decatur, Ala./Decatur HS) assisted on the goal.
Jennings then capped the scoring, earning his second brace of the season, in the 71st minute with junior midfielder Brian Heredia (Pelham, Ala./Itawamba CC) coming through with the assist.
The Panthers outshot the Warriors 18-6 and tallied eight corner kick opportunities.
Senior goalkeeper Kurt Moore (Euharlee, Ga./Darlington School) recorded the win in goal, keeping a clean sheet and making a save in his nearly 86 minutes played. Sophomore goalie Michael Meehan (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS) relieved Moore in the final minutes of regulation.
The shutout was the second of the season for BSC and it was the only shutout in conference play over the weekend.
Birmingham-Southern will return home on Saturday, Oct. 5 for its next SAA matchup against Rhodes College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
