ATLANTA – Two Birmingham-Southern men's soccer student-athletes were selected as the Southern Athletic Association players of the week, the conference announced on Monday.
Freshman forward Coleman Jennings (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) and senior goalkeeper Kurt Moore (Euharlee, Ga./Darlington School) were named the Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Jennings started both of BSC's games last week, helping the Panthers to two road wins. His biggest contributions came in Birmingham-Southern's conference-opener at Hendrix on Saturday. Jennings scored both of his team's goals in the 2-0 win, his second multi-goal game of his career. He finished the week with eight shots and four shots on goal. He currently leads the Panthers and is fifth in the SAA with six goals this season.
Moore started in goal in each of his team's two games last week, too. He recorded two saves in BSC's 2-1 win at MUW on Tuesday before turning around and keeping a clean sheet and making a save in the Panthers' 2-0 shutout at Hendrix. The Panthers were the only side in the SAA to hold scoreless in the opening weekend of conference play.
The award is the first for Moore this season and the first in Jennings' career.
Birmingham-Southern is back at home for its next match, an SAA game against Rhodes on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 4:30 p.m.
