Men's Tennis opens season with wins over Spring Hill, Gadsden State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team, under the direction of first-year head coach Jay Weinacker, opened the season on Sunday with sweeps of Spring Hill College and Gadsden State.

The Panthers swept both matches and only dropped one set on the day.

Senior John Zukley picked up wins at the top singles spots, and he paired with senior Reed Pilling to capture both doubles victories.

Junior Sawyer Voges won at number two singles, and he and sophomore Stewart Thrash also picked up two doubles wins.

Pilling won both matches in the third singles spot, and sophomore Christian Matthews won at number four singles. Matthews and sophomore Michael Wilson also combined for two doubles victories.

Senior Hanlon Walsh was victorious at five singles, and sophomore Tony DaMaia and freshman Ben Reardon both won at six singles.

The Panthers are back in action at home on March 3 and 4, taking on Southwestern University at 9 a.m. on March 3 and Millsaps College at 10 a.m. on March 4 at the BSC Tennis Complex.
