Men's Tennis splits in final matches of regular season

DANVILLE, Ky.—The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team finished out the regular season this weekend with a split on the road, falling to Sewanee on Saturday, 7-2, but defeating Centre today, 5-0.

The Panthers move to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the Southern Athletic Association.

On Saturday, BSC's two points against the Tigers came in singles action, with junior Brian Brandt winning at two and junior Ben Reardon winning at six. At four singles, freshman Alex Makarenko suffered his first loss of the season, as did Brandt and Reardon at three doubles. In the win against Centre, BSC won all three doubles points and two singles points, with the rest going unfinished. Seniors Christian Matthews and Tony DaMaia won at one doubles, moving to 6-6, while sophomore Patrick Hire and Makarenko won at two doubles to move to 11-2 on the season. Brandt and Reardon teamed up at three doubles to win and move to 11-1. DaMaia and Reardon were responsible for BSC's two singles points, winning at five and six. DaMaia moves to 6-3 and Reardon moves to 11-3.

The teams are back in action in two weeks at the 2014 SAA Championship, April 25-27 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
