Men's Tennis falls to Sewanee in SAA championship match

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team lost to Sewanee, 5-0, in the title match of the 2014 Southern Athletic Association Championship Sunday morning at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The match was shortened due to inclement weather moving into the area.

BSC falls to 12-5, while the Tigers move to 14-6.

The Panthers dropped all three doubles matches, although two of them were close, with sophomore Patrick Hire and freshman Alex Makarenko losing 8-6, and juniors Brian Brandt and Ben Reardon falling 8-5. Sewanee won at one and five singles before the match was called early.

Makarenko finishes the season with a team-best 14-1 singles record, while Brandt finishes at 12-2 and Reardon at 12-4. Brandt and Reardon went 13-2 in doubles action, and Hire and Makarenko were 13-3.
