Women third, men fourth at Sewanee Cross Country Invitational
SEWANEE, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern cross country teams opened the 2013 season today at the Sewanee Cross Country Invitational, where the BSC women placed third and the men were fourth in the field of eight teams.
On the women's side, sophomore Kelsey Holdbrooks was the top finisher, placing seventh in the field of 83 runners, followed by freshman Elise Pittman at 14th and sophomore Katie Ann Bass at 16th.
For the men, freshman Chris Roberts was 13th in a field of 93 runners.
"I am very proud of the way our teams competed today," Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. "For a season opener and amongst a competitive field, our men and women raced well. Having top 15-20 finishers in a race on a challenging course is very positive and gives us a lot to build on throughout the next few weeks!"
The Panthers are back in action next Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Fleet Feet/Early Jacoby Memorial hosted by UAH in Huntsville, Ala.
