Softball records four-game shutout sweep of Sewanee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—After shutting out Sewanee twice yesterday, the Birmingham-Southern softball team did it again today, this time by the scores of 10-0 and 15-0, to get the four-game sweep of the Tigers. The Panthers now stand at 19-7 overall and 10-2 in the SCAC.

In game one today, junior pitcher Ronni Ferris led the Panthers at the plate, going 3-of-3, and she also got the win in the circle, giving up two hits with nine strikeouts to move to 11-5 on the season. The Panthers had 12 total hits, and junior Ashley Bice led with three RBI.

In the second game, sophomore Danielle Rucker was 3-of-3 at the plate. Junior Beth Lefler (8-2) threw all five innings and allowed only one hit with two strikeouts.

So far this season, the Panthers are out-scoring their opponents 212-63 and out-hitting them 253-151. Bice leads the team hitting .462 with 27 RBI. The pitching staff - consisting of Ferris and Lefler - has a combined ERA of 1.92 with 147 strikeouts and a .235 opponent batting average.

The Panthers are at home this Tuesday for an exhibition match-up with Bevill State College, followed by a road conference series against DePauw next weekend in Greencastle, Ind. The last home doubleheader of the season is April 14 at 6 p.m. against Covenant College.
