MONTGOMERY, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern softball team split with No. 19 (NAIA) Auburn Montgomery today on the road, winning game one, 1-0, and losing game two, 8-0.
BSC moves to 12-4 on the season, while AUM now stands at 18-10.
Game one was a pitchers' duel, with the only run coming off an RBI triple by BSC senior Ashley Bice in the top of the third.
Bice led the Panthers with two of their three runs, going 2-of-3 at the plate. Freshman Erin Lopez recorded the third hit.
Senior Ronni Ferris started in the circle and got the win, moving to 4-3 on the season after giving up two hits in five innings with four strikeouts. It was also her third shutout. Freshman Bethany Fronk came in for the final two innings and got her fifth save of the year while allowing two hits.
The Warhawks found their bats in game two, racking up 13 hits while BSC recorded four. AUM scored three times in the bottom of the first, once in the bottom of the third, and twice in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to end the game early at 8-0.
Four different Panthers recorded single hits. Senior Beth Lefler was the starting pitcher and the pitcher of record, falling to 3-1 on the season after allowing two hits and one earned run in 0.1 inning. Fronk came in for the next 3.2 innings, allowing five hits with one strikeout, and Ferris finished, giving up six hits and four earned runs in the final 1.1 inning.
BSC returns home this weekend to open SCAC action, taking on Millsaps in a four-game series with doubleheaders on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon, all at BSC Softball Park.
