MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern softball team shut out Rhodes twice again today to complete a four-game SCAC sweep of the Lynx, winning 10-0 in six innings and 3-0 in game two.
The Panthers now stand at 19-5 overall and lead the SCAC East Division with a 7-1 record. The Lynx fall to 12-11-1 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
In game one BSC scored three in the first inning (courtesy of home runs from seniors Ashley Bice and Ronni Ferris) and seven in the sixth. Ferris and senior Beth Lefler were both 2-3 at the plate, and freshman Joanna Jernigan led with three RBI.
Ferris also pitched all six innings and moves to 6-4 on the season after recording eight strikeouts and giving up five hits in the shutout.
In the second game the Panthers scored twice in the second, once on an error and then on an RBI single by junior Chelsea Fernandez. BSC added one more in the third on an RBI single by freshman Taylor Bassett, and the Panthers held the Lynx scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Freshman Bethany Fronk threw the complete game to move to 8-0 on the season, giving up four hits with two strikeouts.
Fernandez was 2-3 for BSC, while Bice and Bassett were both 2-4. The Panthers tallied 10 total hits.
BSC returns home next weekend for its final home games of the year, facing Centre, Friday and Saturday, in 11 a.m. doubleheaders on both days.
