TYLER, Texas—Senior pitcher Ronni Ferris threw her second complete game in less than 10 hours today to help the Birmingham-Southern softball team win its second game of the day to stay alive in the UT Tyler NCAA Regional today in Tyler, Texas, defeating 13th-ranked Redlands, 1-0. The Panthers lost to the Bulldogs yesterday in the first round, 6-4.
BSC moves to 36-10 and will face the top-seeded seventh-ranked host UT Tyler Patriots tomorrow at 4 p.m. Redlands ends its season at 32-13.
The Panthers' lone run - and the only run of the game - came in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, freshman Bethany Fronk walked and then stole second. A ground-out moved her to third, and an RBI single to center field by freshman Erin Lopez brought her home.
BSC had more chances to score, leaving the bases loaded in both the third and fifth innings, but the Panther defense held the Bulldogs scoreless for the duration of the game.
Ferris was impressive in the circle, throwing her second complete game of the day and allowing only four hits with four strikeouts in the shutout. She moves to 15-5 on the season.
BSC recorded six hits, all singles by six different Panthers.
