BSC Softball Rebounds With Sweep Of Millsaps

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –  Bethany Fronk had five RBI and picked up two wins in the circle to lead Birmingham-Southern (7-7; 2-2 SAA) softball to a Southern Athletic  Association doubleheader sweep of Millsaps College (8-5; 2-2 SAA) on Sunday at the BSC Softball Park.

The Panthers captured game one 7-1 and game two 12-3 in five innings to rebound after getting swept by the Majors on Saturday.

Fronk had an RBI triple followed by a Deanna Creps RBI double and a Katelyn Murray RBI single to highlight a five-run first inning in game one.

After the five run first, the Panthers added a run the second and sixth innings and on the way to finishing with 15 hits in game one.

Fronk would go the distance in the circle with four strikeouts while allowing one run and scattering six hits to earn the win.

Brittany Berkopec went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Rucker went 3-for-3 with two runs scored to lead BSC in game one. Creps was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI and Kateylyn Murray had a pair of hits and drove in a run.

In game two, BSC scored a run in the second, four in the third and seven in the fifth to end the game due to the NCAA run rule.

Taylor Bassett belted a home run in the second to get the scoring started while Rucker had a bases clearing triple in the four-run third. 

Alyssa Statham got the seven-run fourth going with a two-RBI single. Fronk doubled in a pair of runs and Creps and Murray had RBI singles.

Fronk earned her second win of the day by tossing 3.1 innings in relief Creps. Fronk struck out two and allowed two runs on four hits to improve to 6-5.   

The Panthers tallied 14 hits in game two with Murray's three hits leading the way. Statham, Rucker, Bassett, and Fronk recorded two hits apiece.  Rucker drive in four runs while Statham and Fronk had three and two RBI, respectively.

Molly Tyner took the loss in both games for the Majors to fall to 4-3.

The Panthers return to action against Covenant at the BSC Softball Park on Thursday at 4 p.m.
