DANVILLE, Ky. – Taylor Bassett belted two home runs and had four RBI to help Birmingham-Southern a 10-0 win over Centre College in game one of a doubleheader Saturday at the South Campus Complex. Katelyn Murray went 2-for-3 with three RBI to help the Panthers post a 4-3 come from behind win in the night cap.
The sweep extends the Panthers win streak to six games while improving to 11-7 overall and 4-2 in the Southern Athletic Association while Centre fell to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the SAA.
BSC scored three runs in the second, two in the third and fourth innings and three in the sixth in game one. Murray doubled in two runs and Elizabeth Ballew had an RBI single in the second. Alyssa Statham doubled and came home on a Bassett two-run home run in the third. Fronk highlighted the fourth with an RBI single and Bassett hit her second home run of the game and Ballew had an RBI single in the sixth.
In game two, the Panthers trailed 2-0 into the fourth inning before BSC scored a run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 2-1 and took the lead with a three-run sixth. Statham doubled and scored on a Murray single to tie the game in the sixth. Statham walked to lead off the sixth and scored on a Bethany Fronk single to tie the game and Murray doubled in Fronk and Bassett to give BSC a 4-2.
Bethany Fronk pitched a two-hit shutout with three strikeouts to pick up the game one win and worked 4.1 innings in relief to earn the win in game two.
The Panthers wrap up the SAA series against Centre with a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m.
