BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern softball team shutout Talladega College in both games of their doubleheader Thursday. The Panthers (21-16) put up five runs in the first inning of game one en route to a 9-0 (5) win before blanking the Tornadoes 4-0 in the nightcap.
Savannah Lee (Lascassas, Tenn./Oakland HS) led the Panthers offensively. She hit .750 with two doubles and home run. The first baseman also scored four runs, earned two RBI and was walked twice.
BSC's pitching staff dominated the day. Talladega hit 0.077 as a team across both games with only three hits.
Taylor Harkins (Mountain Brook, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) and Haley Crumpton (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson HS) earned the complete game shutout wins. Both struck out seven. Harkins gave up only one hit in her win.
The Panthers now wait for the dust to settle in the Southern Athletic Association to see their seeding in the conference tournament. At 8-8 in league play, BSC can finish as high as third.
It was senior day on the Hilltop and BSC spent time recognizing its four seniors and making a special presentation to Assistant Coach Steve Meyer before the doubleheader. Meyer will be retiring after this season and the softball program announced that the bullpen would be named in his honor.
