BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern softball team split competition at the Piedmont Classic Saturday. The Panthers fell 4-2 to host Piedmont before routing Covenant College 10-0 in game two.
Abby Spencer (Auburn, Ala./Auburn HS) and Bailey Murphy (Trussville, Ala./South Alabama) led the team at the plate finishing with four hits each including a double. Spencer hit .667 with two runs and an RBI. Murphy was a home run away from the cycle for the day and earned three RBI.
Annie Clayton (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) picked up the win over Covenant after going four shutout innings and allowing just two hits to the 18 batters she faced. Jessica Perley (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia HS) struck out a team-best three batters and allowed just one hit to the 15 faced against Piedmont.
