BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern softball team outscored Fontbonne University 18-0 Wednesday afternoon, as BSC mercy ruled the Griffins 8-0 and 10-0 in both games of their doubleheader. The Panthers moved to 7-2 overall with the wins.
Alyssa Fowler (Moody, Ala./Moody HS) led the team, going .800 on the day with four hits, including a triple, two runs and two RBI. Four others had multi-hit days. Annie Clayton (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) went 2-for-3, both Kolyn Kyser (Springville, Ala./Springville HS) and Savannah Lee (Lascassas, Tenn./Oakland HS) went 2-for-4, and Bailey Murphy (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) finished at .400 with two hits of her own, respectively.
Haley Crumpton (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson HS) pitched a complete game shutout to earn the first win of the day. She struck out a team-high 10 batters allowing just two hits and walking only two. Jessica Perley (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia HS) and Alexis Eisenberg (Chelsea, Ala./Georgia Gwinnett) combined for the game two shutout with Perley earning her first win of the season. She struck out five and gave up just one hit.
BSC hits the road this weekend to open Southern Athletic Association play. The Panthers face Centre College in a doubleheader on Saturday followed by a single game on Sunday.
