Swimming & Diving opens season with Tri-Meet against Centre and West Florida
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern swimming and diving teams opened the 2013-14 season today at the Birmingham CrossPlex, hosting a Tri-Meet with Centre and West Florida.
The women's team split the meet, beating Centre 104-100 but falling to West Florida 158-59. West Florida defeated Centre 156-63. The men's team lost a close meet with Centre, 122-107.
Hannah Busk paced the women, finishing second in the 100 fly and joining Sami Norman, Marilyn Rowell, and Kristen Stempak to place second in the 400 medley relay. Freshman Erica Dekle won the 100 back, and Rowell was second in the 100 breast.
On the men's side, Duncan Bonney and Drew Priede led with three first-place finishes each, joining Scott Taylor and Matt Gonzalez to win the 400 medley relay. Bonney also won the 100 free and 100 breast, and Priede won the 200 free and 500 free. Freshman Sam Cook won the 1000 free in his first collegiate appearance, and Taylor, also a freshman, broke the school record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.52.

The Panthers are back in action tomorrow hosting a relay meet at the CrossPlex beginning at 11 a.m.
