BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern swimming and diving teams defeated Berry and Rhodes Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
BSC defeated Rhodes 366.50-203.50, and defeated Berry 392.50-167.50.
"This was a total team effort in winning both the men's and women's meets," Head Coach Toby Wilcox said.
On the women's side, senior Kristen Stempak was a double individual winner, placing first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, and was also a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard free relay teams. Sophomore Katie Miller also won two individual events: the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, and she was also a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay team.
Senior Molly Waddell won the 200-yard freestyle and was also a member of the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relay teams, and sophomore Katie Kassis had an exciting come-from-behind win in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Panthers were first and second in the 50 free, with Stempak placing first followed by freshman Chelsea Chamblee in a close second.
On the men's side, senior Drew Priede posted conference-best times to win the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly. Senior Wil Cushman won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, and freshman R.J. Clark won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
Freshman Justin Staab won the 1000-yard freestyle, followed by junior Sam Cook at second, and junior Scott Taylor won the 100-yard backstroke. Cushman and sophomore Luke Hufstutler were also second in the 500-yard freestyle.
The Panthers will travel to Atlanta, Ga., next Saturday for the Emory Diving Invitational.
