SEWANEE, Tenn. – Birmingham-Southern divers competed at the Sewanee Invite on Friday, with the men and women taking part in two events each.
Four Panthers participated in the women's 1-meter dive, with junior Eleni Heller (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) leading BSC with a score of 142.20 to place third. BSC divers placed third through sixth in the event.
In the women's 3-meter dive, sophomore Mallory Schirm (Marietta, Ga./Hillgrove HS) came in second place with a score of 156.23. Senior Sammi Loew (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy HS) placed third with a mark of 146.10.
Freshman James Hughes (Huntsville, Ala./Grissom HS) was the lone competitor in both the men's 1-meter and 3-meter dives. He recorded a score of 285.67 in the 1-meter and 264.70 in the 3-meter dive. Hughes's score in the 1-meter qualified him for zones, bringing him one step closer to qualifying for the NCAA Championships in 2019.
Birmingham-Southern's next event will be against Rhodes College on Saturday, Nov. 3.
