BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued to lead the field at the Southern Athletic Association Championships on Friday.
After 26 events, the BSC women lead with 622 points and the men's team is on top with 597 points.
Freshman Anna Jordan Luth (Pensacola, Fla./Booker T. Washington HS) got the finals session started strong for the Panther women. Luth finished first in the 400 IM, setting a new conference record and breaking her own program record in the event with a time of 4:31.21.
Junior Becca Erwin (Duluth, Ga./Duluth HS) added another individual crown for the women, taking first in the 200-yard freestyle. Erwin finished the freestyle in 1:48.72, good enough for an invite time and breaking her own conference and program records in the race.
On the men's side, freshman Hayden Henderson (Tupelo, Miss./Tupelo HS) took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.37.
Among both teams, the Panthers had three first-place finishers, four second-place finishes and two third-place finishes on Friday night.
Birmingham-Southern will return to the Birmingham Crossplex for the final day of competition on Saturday. Preliminaries will start at 10 a.m. with finals to begin at 6 p.m.
