NCAA Championships: Shute, Watkins Compete at Indoor National Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern track and field had two student-athletes qualify for the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships this weekend.  Seniors Karmin Shute (Fayetteville, Ga./The Walker School) and Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC)  will race for a chance at National Championships Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

 

Shute qualified in both the 60m and 200m dashes.  This is her first appearance at National's.  She owns the sixth fastest 60 time and eighth fastest 200 in the country this year.

 

Watkins is the reigning 60m indoor champion and will have a chance to defend his title.  His time of 6.83 is the second fastest of the season.

 

The pair both compete in the prelims on Friday afternoon.  Fans can follow the action and get more information on the championships this weekend at Championship Central.
