NCAA Championships: Watkins, Shute to Race for National Titles

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern track seniors Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) and Karmin Shute (Fayetteville, Ga./The Walker School) qualified for the 60m finals at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday.  Shute also qualified for the finals in the 200m dash.

 

Watkins is the reigning indoor 60m champion.  He ran the fastest time in the prelims at 6.74 seconds.  The mark was a season-best and just 0.02 off his personal record.  Both of Shute's qualifying times were personal records.  She won her heat in the 200m dash in a time of 24.843 and earned the fifth fastest time in the 60m dash at 7.68.

 

The 60m finals begin at 2:25 p.m. on Saturday, with the women's 200m final beginning at approximately 4:15 p.m.  Fans can follow the action at Championship Central.
