BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern men's track and field had seven earn Southern Athletic Association All-Conference honors, the league announced recently. The group was headlined by senior Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) who was named track athlete of the year.
Watkins successfully defended his 100m and 200m dash titles, and was a member of the silver medalist 4x100m relay team. He also earned points competing in the high jump and 4x400m relay.
Joining Watkins on first-team is two-time hammer throw champion Kameren Morgan (Bowie, Md./St. Alban's School for Boys). His toss of 58.33m was over three meters further than the second place mark. Freshman Luke Ballard (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) also earned a spot on first-team after winning the javelin throw.
Earning spots on the All-SAA Second Team were Amir Sims (Orlando, Fla./Union Grove HS), Shakir Campbell (Pensacola, Fla./Tate HS), John Jacobs (Albany, Ga./Deerfield-Windsor HS), and C.J. LeCroy (Isabella, Ala./Isabella HS). The latter placed second in the javelin. Sims, Campbell, and Jacobs were members of the 4x100m relay team.
