LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Freshman Luke Ballard (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) earned eighth place overall, a spot on the podium, and an All-America honor in javelin at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. His mark of 62.35m was only 0.12 meters off his personal record.
Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) and Karmin Shute (Fayetteville, Ga./The Walker School) continued competition on the track in day two of the championships. Watkins blew through the 100m prelims with the top time. He crossed in 10.80 seconds. Shute won her heat in the 100m dash, finishing in 12.31, the second fastest time of the prelims.
The championships conclude tomorrow. Shute will be competing in the 100m and 200m finals, and Watkins will be looking to successfully defend his 100m title. Kameren Morgan (Bowie, Md./St. Alban's School for Boys) also gets his chance to earn a title. He competes in the hammer throw at 11 a.m.
