BSC Women clinch spot in SCAC Championship with 62-45 win over Sewanee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team clinched a spot in the upcoming 2012 SCAC Championship today with a 62-45 win against Sewanee in Bill Battle Coliseum.

BSC moves to 13-11 overall and 8-7 in the SCAC; the Tigers fall to 9-13 overall and 3-11 in the conference.

Junior Erin Moore led the Panthers with 12 points, followed by junior Caroline King with 10 points. Junior Melanie Short and sophomore Elizabeth Bromirski led with seven rebounds each, and Short also led with four assists.

The Panthers shot 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field, 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from three-point range, and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the free throw line.

BSC out-rebounded Sewanee, 49-34, while committing 13 turnovers to the Tigers' eight.

The Panthers are back at home again next weekend for the regular season finale, hosting Oglethorpe on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 3 p.m. BSC is also set to host the 2012 SCAC Championship, Feb. 24-26.
