BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Led by freshman Jane Romano with 13 points, the Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team returned to action with a 72-23 victory against Wesleyan College in the Sheraton Birmingham Classic, Saturday in Bill Battle Coliseum.
The Panthers move to 3-7 while the Pioneers fall to 1-3.
Wesleyan scored the first basket of the game in what would be the Pioneers' only two points for the next 16 minutes. BSC led 36-2 before Wesleyan scored again, and the Panthers led 47-5 at the half. The second half was closer, with BSC out-scoring Wesleyan 25-18 for a final of 72-23.
Romano led all scorers with her 13 points off the bench, while senior Caroline King had 10 points and sophomore Alexis Adams led with 10 rebounds. Freshman Kelsey Brown led with four assists, and sophomore Kayla Ford led with three steals.
The Panthers are in action again tomorrow in the Classic, facing Centenary at 3 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum. Centenary and Rhodes also played today, with Rhodes winning 86-79. The Lynx and the Pioneers will square off tomorrow at 1 p.m.
