Bromirski, Short lead Panthers in 73-62 victory over Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark.—Junior Elizabeth Bromirski recorded a career-high 23 points and senior Melanie Short scored 20 in helping lead the Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team to a 73-62 road win against Hendrix College, Friday evening in Conway, Ark.

The Panthers move to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Warriors remain win-less at 0-16 overall and 0-5 in SAA play.

After BSC pulled out to a 7-0 start to open the game, Hendrix quickly came back and the rest of the half stayed close. The Warriors held a 35-33 lead at halftime.

Six minutes into the second half, Hendrix achieved its largest lead of the game, going up 42-36, but the Panthers answered with a 10-1 run to pull up 46-43 at the 11:47 mark. BSC held onto its lead for the duration of the game, slowly building to as much as a 15-point lead, twice, before winning by nine.

Bromirski led all players with her career-high 23 points, hitting 9-11 from the field and 4-6 from three-point range. Short also scored 20 points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Freshman Kelsey Brown led with six assists.

The Panthers out-shot the Warriors in every category, going 25-54 (.463) from the field, 10-23 (.435) from three-point range, and 13-15 (.867) at the free throw line. Hendrix shot 26-70 (.371) overall, 5-17 (.294) from beyond the arc, and 5-10 (.500) at the line.

BSC also out-rebounded Hendrix by a large margin, 48-30, but committed 10 more turnovers with 17 to the Warriors' seven.

The Panthers stay on the road to face Rhodes College on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
