Rallies Fall Short for Panthers in 2OT Loss

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team fought back twice against Southern Athletic Association rival Sewanee on the road Friday night before falling 72-69 in double overtime. The loss broke a five-game win streak for the Panthers.

Four finished in double-figure points led by Misa Fujii (Sunnyvale, Calif./Notre Dame) who earned 16. Derienne Black (Madison, Ala./Sparkman HS) finished right behind her with 15, making 7-of-12 from the floor.

Christian McGowan (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain HS) and Emilee Olsen (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) round out the Panthers in double-digits with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Olsen also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

BSC (8-11, 5-3 SAA) trailed by one with with 1:14 after a pair of free throws from Olsen. After fending off a pair of Sewanee possessions, the Panthers called timeout with 10 seconds remaining. They would get a shot off with five seconds left, but the Tigers got the defensive rebound to secure the win.

The Panthers head to Danville, Ky. to take on Centre College this Sunday. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
