BSC Falls On the Road at Centre 65-54

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team traveled to Centre College on Sunday afternoon, dropping the game to the Colonels 65-54.

The two teams battled back and forth in the first half, with the home side holding the advantage at the end of the first quarter and the Panthers taking a two-point lead into the break.

In the second half, however, the Panthers were outshot by the Colonels, especially in the fourth quarter. BSC was just 4-of-15 from the field in the final 10 minutes, which was not good enough to close the five-point deficit it started the period with.

On the day, the Panthers shot 37 percent from the field and were 5-of-14 from beyond the three-point line. Freshman guard Derienne Black (Madison, Ala./Sparkman HS) came off the bench to lead BSC with 14 points. Forwards Kaitlin Hogan (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) and Emilee Olsen (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) both led the team in rebounds with eight each.

With the result on Sunday, Birmingham-Southern and Centre have split the season series after BSC took down the Colonels 56-43 in Bill Battle Coliseum on Jan. 20.

Birmingham-Southern drops to 8-12 overall and 5-4 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Panthers travel to conference opponent Oglethorpe for their next game on Friday, Feb. 1. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
