Women's Golf in second after round one of SCAC Championship
TUNICA, Miss.—Led by four players in the top 10, the No. 17 Birmingham-Southern women's golf team sits in the second position after the first day of competition at the SCAC Championship at The Links at Cottonwoods in Tunica, Miss.
The opening round team score of 326 leaves the Panthers chasing only No. 4 Centre College and their first round team score of 315. No. 25 Rhodes College rounds out the top three with a 329.
All five Panthers scored within two strokes of one another. Senior Jennifer Commander and sophomore Rachele Struthers led the tightly bunched squad, each carding an 81. Junior Michelle Morris and sophomore Ellen Chun both finished with an 82, followed by sophomore Kaleigh Toole's 83. In the individual standings, the 81 of Commander and Struthers was good enough for a tie for 6th place, Morris's and Chun's 82 leaves that pair in a tie for tenth, and Toole is in a two-way tie for fourteenth.
Centre's Alyssa Brown leads all individuals with 73 today, followed by teammate Emily Bachert with 74 and No. 19 Southwestern's Karissa Speck with 78.
