MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's golf team finished fifth at the 2017 Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate on Monday.
The Panthers, led by junior Sarah Moon (Cordova, Tenn./St. George's Independent School), shot 653 (+69) as a team for the 36-hole tournament.
BSC, which shot 324 in the first round, was in third place on the team leaderboard after Sunday. The Panthers added five more strokes to that score on Monday, however, and dropped two spots to finish fifth overall.
Birmingham-Southern's individual leader Moon tied for fourth among 51 individual participants, shooting a 152 (+6) for the event. Moon shot a 75 on Sunday to finish two-over and tied for first place after the first round. She dropped two shots on Monday to score a 77 and dropped to fourth place. Her fourth place finished earned Moon medalist honors for the tournament.
Sophomore Madison Dalton (Canton, Ga./Woodstock HS) had BSC's second best outing, shooting 167 and tying for 26th place. Other team members Drew McDonagh (Germantown, Tenn./Hutchison School) and Emma Phillips (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood HS) both shot 23-over to tie for 29th, while freshman Alexis Chambers (Fort Payne, Ala./Fort Payne HS) shot 170 to place 33rd.
Sophomore Sarah Posey (Covington, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School), who competed as an individual, shot a 168 to finish 28th.
Birmingham-Southern will compete next at the D3 Golfweek Preview tournament at Sandestin Resort in Sandestin, Fla., Saturday, Oct. 14 through Tuesday, Oct. 17.
