BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team lost at home on Tuesday evening to Augustana College, 20-9. The Panthers now stand at 1-1 on the young season.
The Vikings out-scored BSC 9-1 in the first 24 minutes, with the Panthers' lone goal coming from Rebecca Klementz off a free position shot. BSC scored three straight goals to cut the Augustana lead to 9-4, but the Vikings scored twice more before halftime to lead 11-4.
The teams traded goals to open the second half, and BSC scored three straight to cut it to 13-8, but the Augies responded with four straight goals to go back up 17-8. BSC scored once more in the game, another free position shot, this time by Alexis Sweda, and Augustana recorded three more goals down the stretch for a final of 20-9.
Logan Harris led the Panthers with three goals. Stephanie Gore and goalkeeper Katie Bates led with five ground balls apiece. Gore also had four caused turnovers.Chelsea Van Voorhis led with five draw controls. Bates made eight saves in the net.
BSC takes on Carthage College this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Sewanee, Tenn., before returning home on Monday, Feb. 27, to face Ferrum College at 5 p.m.
