BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Led by sophomore Madeline Golden with a single-game record nine goals, the Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team defeated Ferrum College, 19-14, Monday evening in Panther Stadium.
BSC moves to 2-2 with the win, while Ferrum falls to 0-2.
The entire first half of the game was very back-and-forth, with neither team leading by more than two, and the teams trading goals the whole way. The score was tied at 9-9 at the end of the period.
Ferrum came out and scored three straight goals to start the second half and go up 12-9, but BSC proceeded to out-score Ferrum 5-1 over the next 10 minutes to take the lead, 14-13, with 13:13 left to play. Ferrum tied it up less than a minute later, but Golden scored five straight goals to end the game and give the Panthers the 19-14 win.
BSC out-shot Ferrum 35-26, and Ferrum turned it over four more times than BSC with 28. Ferrum won 19 draw controls to BSC's 16, but BSC picked up 29 ground balls, 10 more than Ferrum.
The Panthers are back in action next Monday, taking on Aquinas at 5 p.m. in Panther Stadium.
