JACKSON, Miss.—The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team narrowly defeated Millsaps today on the road, winning 12-11.
The Panthers move to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the SCAC.
The Majors scored the first three goals of the game before BSC went on a 7-1 run to go up 7-4 by the 7:38 mark of the first half. Millsaps added one more before halftime to trail 7-5.
BSC opened the second half with two goals, and the Majors responded in like to bring the score to 9-7 in favor of the Panthers. BSC scored a single goal after that before Millsaps scored three straight to tie it up 10-10 with 7:04 left to play.
Senior Chelsea Van Voorhis and sophomore Madeline Golden found the back of the net over the next two minutes for the Panthers, putting BSC up 12-10. Millsaps was able to score once more before the end of the game, and BSC came away with the 12-11 win.
Golden and junior Stephanie Gore led with three goals apiece, while Van Voorhis had two. Gore also led with six ground balls, four caused turnovers, and four draw controls.
Senior goalkeeper Katie Bates played the entire game and recorded eight saves.
The Panthers travel to face future SAA rival Berry this Tuesday, April 10, at 4 p.m. ET.
