BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team opened its 2019 season with a 25-11 defeat at the hands of Division II's Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers competed well in the first half, scoring nine goals off 13 shots in the first half. At halftime, BSC trailed UAH 12-9, but the Chargers ran away with the match in the second half as the Panthers scored just two goals to visitor's 13.
Junior Jade Cox (Rome, Ga./Darlington School) led the Panthers in scoring with five goals. Newcomers Lizzie LaVangie (Jacksonville, Fla./Darlington School) and Kendal Vick (Madison, Ala./James Clemons HS) scored the rest of BSC's goals with four and two, respectively.
Sophomore goalie Alexus Howard (Spring Hill, Tenn./Franklin HS) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Panthers and recorded 17 saves.
Birmingham-Southern will travel to Montevallo for its next game on Friday, Feb. 15. The start of the game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
