BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team defeated Point University 16-9 at General Krulak Stadium on Tuesday night.
BSC scored eight goals in each half to earn their 16 goals and limited the Skyhawks to three goals in the first and six goals in the second half.
The Panthers were led by seven goals and an assist from junior Jade Cox (Rome, Ga./Darlington School). The midfielder also grabbed 12 ground balls, two draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Cox's 12 ground balls and eight caused turnovers were career-high numbers.
Senior Katie Gleeson (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin HS), who had four goals, led the team in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers with 17, seven and nine, respectively. Her 17 ground balls and nine caused turnovers were both career highs.
Mari Clair Harmon (Houston, Texas/Northland Christian HS) and Kendal Vick (Madison, Ala./James Clemons HS) got on the scoresheet with two goals each, and Lizzie LaVangie (Jacksonville, Fla./Darlington School) added a goal and an assist.
Sophomore Alexus Howard (Spring Hill, Tenn./Franklin HS) played all 60 minutes between the pipes for BSC and finished the game with a season-high 19 saves.
Offensively, the Panthers had 39 shots and 29 shots-on-goal. Defensively, BSC caused 27 turnovers in the game.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 2-3 on the season. Birmingham-Southern will travel to Southern Athletic Association foe Rhodes for its next game on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m.
