ATLANTA – Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse student-athlete Katie Gleeson (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin HS) was named the Southern Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Gleeson put together a great defensive performance in a 15-10 road win at Southwestern on Friday night. The senior team captain forced seven turnovers and picked up four ground balls. She also won two draw controls in the game.
Her defense won her the SAA weekly award, but Gleeson was BSC's best offensive player in the game against Southwestern, as well. She accounted for nine of the Panthers 15 goals, with seven goals scored and two assists.
This is Gleeson's second SAA weekly defensive honor this season. She won the award previously on Feb. 25.
Birmingham-Southern will host North Central in its next game on Tuesday, March 19 at 6 p.m.
