BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse fell to the North Central College Cardinals 19-13 at home on Tuesday evening.
Five goals apiece from Jade Cox (Rome, Ga./Darlington School) and Katie Gleeson (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin HS) were not enough to push the Panthers past the Cardinals in the end, as BSC dropped to 4-6 overall with the loss.
After falling down 6-1 to start the game, the Panthers pressured the North Central defense and pulled back within two goals, 8-6, with just over six minutes to play in the first half.
The Cardinals outscored the home team 3-1 in those remaining six minutes, however, to take an 11-7 lead into halftime.
In the second half, BSC attempted another comeback, getting within two goals again and cutting North Central's lead to 13-11 with 21:06 to go. The Panthers could not keep the Cardinals out of the net, however, and were outscored 6-2 in the final 20 minutes.
Cox and Gleeson, BSC's leading scorers in the game, also led the Panthers defensively with five and six caused turnovers, respectively.
Sophomore goalie Alexus Howard (Spring Hill, Tenn./Franklin HS) finished the game with 15 saves.
Birmingham-Southern will host SCAD in its next game on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m.
