BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team defeated Hendrix College 25-21 on Saturday afternoon, improving to 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the Southern Athletic Association.
Junior Jade Cox (Rome, Ga./Darlington School) led the Panther offense with a season-high eight goals in the game, adding an assist and 12 draw controls.
Cox's eight goals gave the midfielder 76 for the year, which set a new Birmingham-Southern single-season goal record, previously held by Madeline Golden in 2014. She now has 181 career goals and is second in the SAA this season.
Other notable performers for BSC were senior Katie Gleeson (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin HS), Kendal Vick (Madison, Ala./James Clemons HS) and Lizzie LaVangie (Jacksonville, Fla./Darlington School). Gleeson finished the game with five goals, seven ground balls and seven draw controls. She also had a team-high four caused turnovers.
Vick and LaVangie each scored four goals with Vick adding four assists.
Saturday's game also served as Senior Day for the Panthers. Two seniors -- Gleeson and Ali Wynkoop (Bethlahem, Penn./Liberty HS) -- were honored pre-game for their contributions to the Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse program.
Birmingham-Southern's next game will be in the SAA tournament. Earning the No. 4 seed, BSC will travel to host Rhodes to face fifth-seeded Hendrix on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m.
