ATLANTA – Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse student-athlete Jade Cox (Rome, Ga./Darlington School) was named the Southern Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The junior midfielder scored 12 goals in two games last week, including a season-high eight goals in a 25-21 win in BSC's regular-season finale against Hendrix.
Cox scored a team-high four goals in a 17-11 home loss to Reinhardt on Tuesday, adding six ground balls and seven draw controls.
She doubled her goal tally against the Warriors on Saturday, scoring eight goals while adding an assist, six ground balls and 12 draw controls. Cox's final goal of the game against Hendrix was her 76th of the year, which set a new program record for single-season goals scored.
This is the second SAA Offensive Player of the Week honor for Cox and her third SAA weekly award this season.
Cox and her Panther teammates will travel to Rhodes, the top seed in the SAA tournament, for their next game on Friday, April 19. Birmingham-Southern, the No. 4 seed, will play fifth-seeded Hendrix in the tournament quarterfinals.
