Amaya, Plotky, and Soto earn All-SCAC honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—In exclusive voting by the head women's soccer coaches of the Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Birmingham-Southern women's soccer players Linda Amaya, Alicia Plotky, and Brittany Soto were voted All-Conference, the league office announced today.

Amaya and Plotky were tabbed as First-Team selections, while Soto was voted Second-Team.

Plotky, a junior forward from Lawrenceville, Ga., led the team and ranked second in the conference (behind Offensive Player of the Year Abigail Loar of Trinity University) in points with 33, and led the team and was tied for second in the conference with 13 goals. She also led the Panthers and was fourth in the SCAC with seven assists and four game-winning goals. Plotky, still with one year of eligibility left, ends the season ranked fourth in career points (86), third in career goals (33) and game-winning goals (9), fifth in assists (20), and second in shots (149).

Amaya, a junior midfielder from Hattiesburg, Miss., was second on the team with 14 points (5 goals, 4 assists) and ranked eighth in the SCAC in points per game (1.00). With another year of eligibility, Amaya ends the 2010 campaign ranked 10th in career goals (19), fourth in game-winning goals (7), and third in career shots (129).

Soto, a defender from Ball Ground, Ga., anchored the BSC defense with nine shutouts this season, which ties for the second-most in program history. The Panther defense also allowed its opponents to score only 24 goals on the year. She was third on the team with six points from her three goals, which were the first of her collegiate career.

"I am thrilled for Linda, Alicia and Brittany," Head Coach Benji Walton said. "it's been a long time coming for these guys, who have been three of the top players in the conference for the past few years, but were never allowed
to receive the credit that they fully deserved due to our transition. These three girls are always ready to go and work so hard to be the best that they can be. They are our captains for a reason; their leadership has been tremendous. I am extremely proud of all three.

"But as proud as I am for these three players, I think it is an award that our entire team shares," Walton continued. "Without the hard work from all the girls, these three couldn't have had the success that they had this year. As a team we share in the excitement for Linda, Alicia, and Brittany."
