BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Junior Amanda Babbin scored two goals and assisted the game-winner in helping the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team shut out Hendrix, 6-0, Saturday evening in BSC Soccer Park.
The Panthers move to 7-5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the Warriors fall to 4-7-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the SAA. Today was BSC's fourth shutout of the season, and second-straight 6-0 win after defeating LaGrange by the same score on Wednesday at home.
Junior Jamie Sullivan scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Babbin, in the seventh minute, and senior Devon Weldon scored in the 19th minute, assisted by senior Melissa Sweeney, to put the Panthers up 2-0.
BSC scored four more times in the second half of the game, with a goal from freshman Sammy Manzo, assisted by freshman Jessie Sperry, in the 65th minute. Sperry scored a minute later, and Babbin scored two minutes after that, assisted by Sullivan. Babbin wrapped up the scoring in the 73rd minute off an assist from junior Kelly Craft.
The Panthers led in shots, 18-10, and shots-on-goal, 7-5, led by Craft and Babbin with three shots each. Junior Richelle Byrd started in goal for BSC and played 74 minutes, recording four saves. Freshman Katie Williams came in for the final 16 minutes and made one save.
BSC travels to face Huntingdon on Monday before returning home next weekend for Homecoming 2012, taking on Berry on Friday, Oct. 19, at 5 p.m., and Oglethorpe on Sunday, Oct. 21, at noon.
