Women's Soccer wins seventh straight with 2-0 shutout of Oglethorpe in SAA Quarterfinals
DANVILLE, Ky.—Two goals from freshman Jessie Sperry helped the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team defeat Oglethorpe, 2-0, in the first round of the Southern Athletic Association Championship, Friday, in Danville, Ky.
BSC has now won seven straight games, including four straight shutouts. The Panthers have eight total shutouts on the season.
The second-seeded Panthers move to 12-5-1 overall, while the seventh-seeded Stormy Petrels fall to 5-11 to end the season. BSC moves on to face the winner of the game between third-seeded Rhodes and sixth-seeded Berry tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
Sperry scored her first goal of the game in the 38th minute, and then scored again with less than two minutes left in the game. She now has eight goals on the season.
BSC out-shot OU 17-10, led by Sperry with eight. Junior Richelle Byrd played all 90 minutes in goal, recording four saves in her third shutout of the year.
