LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.—The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team scored two second-half goals to defeat Covenant College on the road, Tuesday evening.
The Panthers move to 2-3; the Scots fall to 2-5.
Although each team had six shots in the first half, no one was able to find the net, and they took a 0-0 tie in to the halftime break. Less than 10 minutes into the second half, the Panthers struck as senior Jamie Sullivan scored on a shot from the middle of the box. The Panthers pulled ahead 2-0 about 20 minutes later on a goal from sophomore Jessie Sperry, assisted by freshman Nicole Newton.
Senior goalkeeper Richelle Byrd played all 90 minutes and made three saves. Covenant keeper Lucy Johnson also played the entire match and recorded 11 saves.
BSC out-shot the Scots 14-10, including 13-3 on-goal. Senior Amanda Babbin led the team with four shots, all of them on-goal.
The Panthers return home this weekend, hosting No. 10 Emory on Friday at 7 p.m. and Agnes Scott College on Sunday at 1:30 p.m., both at BSC Soccer Park.
