LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team returned to its winning ways on Tuesday night, knocking off the Covenant Lady Scots 2-1.
The Panthers rebounded well from their 5-0 loss at Emory Sunday, scoring a goal in each half Tuesday evening.
BSC freshman midfielder Lettie Lundy (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Wando HS) scored the first goal of the match in the 45th minute, just before halftime. A cross from freshman Bailey Gardner (Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen Catholic HS) found Lundy who pushed it cleanly past the Covenant keeper for her first career goal.
Early in the second half, BSC capped its scoring with its second goal, this one off midfielder Taylor Andrews (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County HS). It was the eighth goal for the junior this season and put the Panthers up 2-0.
Andrews unassisted goal in the 51st minute proved to be the game-winner. The Lady Scots would go on to score in the 62nd minute, but the Panthers prevented any more damage and held on for their sixth win of the year.
Freshman goalkeeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) played all 90 minutes and finished the match with five saves.
Birmingham-Southern will remain on the road and will travel to Southern Athletic Association foe Hendrix on Saturday, Sept. 23. Kickoff for the SAA opener is scheduled for 4:30 P.M.
