CONWAY, Ark. – Two first half goals propelled the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Hendrix on Saturday night. On the road, the Panthers picked up the victory in their first Southern Athletic Association match of the season, moving them to 7-2 overall.
The first goal of the game came in the sixth minute when BSC freshman forward Nicole Bernal (Odenville, Ala./John Carroll Catholic HS) found the back of the net off an assist from freshman midfielder Abby Kay Choate (Tifton, Ga./Tifton County HS). The goal was the first in Bernal's career and the assist was Andrews' third of the 2017 season.
In the 14th minute, Hendrix responded, equalizing with an unassisted goal by Hagan Griffith.
BSC would go on to retake the lead in the 30th minute thanks to a goal by Choate. The goal, off an assist from sophomore Rachael Motamed (Birmingham, Ala./Indian Springs HS), was the eighth of the year for Choate.
Andrews and Choate lead the team with eight goals each.
Freshman keeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) played all 90 minutes and collected four saves.
Birmingham-Southern will remain on the road, traveling to Judson for its next match on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 5:30 P.M.
