BSC Knocks Off Rhodes 1-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Alumni Day, the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team pulled out a thrilling, hard-fought win over Rhodes College on Saturday, defeating the Lynx 1-0.

Despite being outshot by the Lynx 13-9 in the match, the Panthers found the one ultimate opportunity that mattered the most.

In the 86th minute, freshman forward Sydney Barrow (Birmingham, Ala./Indian Springs HS) beat a Rhodes defender and smashed a ball into the top right of the net to give BSC the final 1-0 victory. It was the fourth goal of the year for Barrow and her second game-winner.

The win gives the Panthers their ninth win of the season and an early share of first place in the Southern Athletic Association standings. BSC, Sewanee and Centre each have two SAA wins apiece.

Freshman goalkeeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) finished with two saves and picked up her seventh win of the year.

Birmingham-Southern will host Wesleyan in its next match on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Kickoff is set for 6:00 P.M.
