BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team earned its fifth straight win and remained undefeated at Preston Goldfarb Field with a 6-0 win over Wesleyan College (Ga.) on Tuesday night.
A host of Panthers, led by junior forward Taylor Andrews (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County HS), found the back of the net in the victory over the Wolves.
Reigning Southern Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week Sydney Barrow (Birmingham, Ala./Indian Springs HS) scored the opening goal, beating the keeper to find the back of the net 45 seconds in to the match. Junior midfielder Megan Moser (Mandeville, La./St. Scholastica Catholic HS) had the assist on the play.
Freshman forward Nicole Bernal (Odenville, Ala./John Carroll Catholic HS), freshman forward Kendall Maynard (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain HS) and Andrews, the leading scorer on the team, also added goals in the first 45 minutes to give BSC a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Andrews, with help from Bernal, opened up the scoring in the second half with a goal in the 59th minute. It was her second goal of the match and her 10th of the season.
Sophomore forward Rachael Motamed (Birmingham, Ala./Indian Springs HS) capped the scoring in the 67th minutes, giving the Panthers the final 6-0 lead.
BSC outshot Wesleyan 23-5 and had six corner opportunities to the Wolves' one. Freshman keeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) recorded the win.
Birmingham-Southern will host conference rival Sewanee on Friday evening at 5:00 P.M. before Centre comes to Goldfarb Field for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 8.
