ATLANTA – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team extended its winning streak to eight games with a 1-0 win over Southern Athletic Association foe Oglethorpe on Sunday.
The Panthers remain undefeated in conference play with the win over the Stormy Petrels, improving to 5-0 in the SAA.
On Sunday, the game-winner for BSC came from freshman forward Nicole Bernal (Odenville, Ala./John Carroll Catholic HS) in the final minute. Bernal has been clutch for the Panthers as of late. She scored the game-winner in the 90th minute of a 3-2 comeback win over Berry on Friday before finding the back of the net to beat Oglethorpe on Sunday.
Bernal's goal was her sixth this season. She was assisted on the play by junior Taylor Andrews (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County HS), her fourth assist this year.
Birmingham-Southern outshot Oglethorpe 24 to 9. Freshman goalkeeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) recorded four saves and the win to improve her record to 11-2.
With the win, BSC moves to 13-2 overall and sits atop the conference standings alongside Centre. A showdown for sole possession of first place in the SAA is set for Wednesday, Oct. 18. The Panthers will host the Colonels at Goldfarb Field with kickoff set for 1:30 P.M.
