DECATUR, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team picked up its second win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Agnes Scott 3-1 on the road.
Sophomore forward Sydney Barrow (Birmingham, Ala./Indian Springs HS) scored two first-half goals for the Panthers, giving them an initial 2-0 advantage, a lead the home team Scotties could not overcome.
Barrow's first goal, which opened up the scoring, came in the 18th minute with help from a cross by sophomore midfielder Abby Kay Choate (Tifton, Ga./Tift County HS). Barrow and Choate would link up again in the 26th minute when Barrow found the back of the net a second time to give BSC the 2-0 lead.
Agnes Scott cut the lead to 2-1 in the 33rd minute thanks to a Skye Svehlak goal and the two teams would settle for the 2-1 score at the halftime break.
Returning leading goal scorer for the Panthers from the 2017 campaign, senior Taylor Andrews (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County HS), would score the only goal of the second half in the 56th minute, giving BSC the final 3-1 lead. Sophomore Kendall Maynard (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain HS) received the assist on the play after her free kick attempt found Andrews.
Sophomore goalkeeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) played all 90 minutes in goal and finished the match with seven saves.
Birmingham-Southern improves to 2-0 on the season with the win. The Panthers will play their first home match of the season on Friday, September 7 when Covenant comes to the Hilltop. Kickoff for the match is set for 7 p.m.
