BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team defeated the Mississippi University for Women 3-0 on Tuesday evening, improving to 5-2-1 on the season.
Three different Panthers scored in the game to push BSC past the 1-8 Owls.
Freshman midfielder Emma Choate (Tifton, Ga./Tift County HS) opened up the scoring right before the half in the 43rd minute, scoring off an assist from senior midfielder McKenna Boyd (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County HS).
Sophomore midfielder Josy Gray (Indian Springs, Ala./Indian Springs HS) got the scoring started in the second half, finding the back of the in the 64th minute. Sophomore midfielder Sydney Barrow (Hoover, Ala./Indian Springs HS), BSC's goals and points leader, had the assist on the play.
In the 82nd minute, Taylor Andrews (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County HS) capped the scoring. After an MUW foul, sophomore midfielder Lettie Lundy (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Wando HS) took the free kick, lightly tapping it to Andrews. Andrews bending ball in curved left-to-right, bouncing off the far post and into the net for BSC's third and final goal.
The victory ended the Panthers winless 0-2-1 winless streak since beating Belhaven 2-0 on Sept. 13.
Birmingham-Southern will hit the road for its next match, a Southern Athletic Association matchup at Rhodes on Saturday, Sept. 29. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
